So today saw Supporting Andy’s Man Club Rotherham play their first charity football match. The game started with both sides seeing out the opposition and had very few chances. Then SupportingAMCR saw a few half chances come along after a succession of great dead balls from Charlie Hickey and Andrew plant. From then we seemed to dominate and press extremely well as a team. A great solo run turned into a strong press from Owen Laird which saw the Fit4u defender Play a hopeful ball back towards his keeper, and the main man Daniel Laird rolled back the years with a great interception rounding the keeper for 1-0. Again after another set peice, a good clearence from the Fit4U defender found it‘s way to Will Watson 40 yards from goal. His brilliant cross (poor shot 👀) saw Ewan Walsh nip infront of the keeper and find the roof of the net putting SAMCR 2-0 up. Goal poachers instinct from the CM 😉. The dominant performance continued and would you believe it, another goal came from a corner. In fact directly from the corner! Youngster Callum plant saw a great corner won by the defender on the near post, with the keeper scrambling and winning a second corner. So he thought he’d give it a go and dug deep to find his inner David Beckham and bend the ball into the near post, beating the keeper to make it 3-0. Did he mean it? Who knows? But for sure he’ll claim he did. 3-0 up at half time saw everyone happy and smiling as the first 45 minutes as a team were perfect. Then the second half started scrappy, Clearly Fit4U wouldn’t roll over and that showed as they scored a couple of goals in quick succession which saw them go on to dominate the majority of the second half. The first goal for Fit4U was a stunner which saw a-bit of class as their player lobbed Simon Willoughby while he was on his line, fine finish. Won’t go on about it too much but I’d definitely be asking Kiane Hopkins about his dodgy ball back to his keeper which saw the striker nip in and round our keeper to make it 3-2. From here we seemed to get a foothold back in the game and now it was game on. Some heavy challenges went in from both sides and the game really took a hold. Untill a long throw from Fit4U saw the ball fall to their fresh substitute who volleyed the ball into the bottom corner from 20 yards. The last 20 minutes were exactly as expected after this, both sides with chances and pushing to win the game with neither side pulling in front. Overall a very strong first game as a club and we can’t thank Fit4U enough for the game. Maybe a rematch is what’s needed as I’m sure both sides would love another go for the win!
