On Sunday the lads traveled to Sheffield to play our second game against RVB Hillsborough, this was another tough game for us as we struggled with numbers from the get go. However we aren’t a team to just cancel, so with 11 players (some carrying injuries) and one on the way (dragged out of bed :0) we still gave it a go against a strong side.
The game started quickly with supporting AMCR having the majority of possession and creating a couple of good chances. Hillsborough though, we’re quick up top and it showed as they broke the deadlock after around 15 minutes from a quick counter over the top.
We continued to play some solid possession based football but really struggled to find that killer goal, pitch conditions weren’t amazing which didn’t help, and it showed as a few of their goals took nasty bobbles to go over, under or round our keeper.
We did however manage to get ourselves a couple of goals in the game, one coming from the spot. A free kick 5 yards from the 18 yard line was smashed towards goal and blocked by the defenders arm to give us the penalty which resulted in a goal for Andrew plant. The other goal came from hard work and good play, as Kian, the youngest player in our squad that day, finished clinically in-front of goal to give us our second.
Overall not a bad performance, some thinking our best footballing performance to date, despite the score line (8-2 loss). Battling the tough conditions with massive wind speeds in an open field and on a not so clever pitch, we still managed to put together great moments of passing football and show our class! RVB Hillsborough gave our keeper the MOTM award for some great saves and big moments in the game so a big well done to Simon Willoughby for yet another grade A performance! And a quick mention to young Kian, who was voted our MOTM between our players for a great game.
A big thankyou was in order for the 3 members of RVB Hillsborough who stepped up to referee the game so it could go ahead. They received a lot of criticism, although some warranted :/ in our players opinions, but still did the best they could to keep the game going. Without the referees, we wouldn’t have been able to play so again massive thanks to them.
We now set our sights to our next game on 15th October against “it’s worth talking about.” This will be played at their home ground in Keighley and is a 2pm kick off.
For this game we hope to have received our new kit from our sponsors at Lyle and Scott, so keep your eyes peeled for new posts and updates regarding that!
And now on to the main reason we started our journey! Andys Man Club. We set out to raise £500 in our first year for this amazing charity. However we may need to rethink this as in just a few short months, we are SMASHING it! Having raised £300 already and looking into more options to get everyone involved with the fundraising! So again keep your eyes peeled on the socials for announcements of potential raffles, football cards, or even competitions to get the name of Andys Man Club to every man who could possibly need their help. Just by sharing 1 post or turning up to 1 game of ours, you could get the name of Andys Man Club to 1 man. This 1 man could need their help!
